ABSCo Strategic Vision and Objectives

2018-2021

This new strategy will form the three year work plan of the association for the period 2018 – 2021, to be reviewed at the end of the second year.

  • Improve

Support members to continue to improve quality:

  • Provide regional workshops to support members to use the revised Bereavement Audit Tool to audit their services against the Bereavement Care Service Standards and to develop plans to increase their compliance with the Standards
  • Participate in the development of guidelines for best practice and disseminate to members
  • Participate in the development of national outcome measures and outcome monitoring tools and support members to implement
  • Support members’ recruitment and training of volunteers by developing guidelines and exploring the need to provide training

  • Sustain

Continue to work towards achieving sustainability of ABSCo for its members:

  • Monitor and review the benefit against cost of a paid Administrator
  • Continue to streamline financial processes by moving to online banking
  • Work towards the election of a new Vice Chair and Treasurer
  • Work towards filling all Regional Rep posts
  • Work towards balancing expenditure against income in a way that is sustainable

  • Map

Develop a clearer picture of what our members and their services provide in order to develop a stronger voice for our members within the bereavement field:

  • Survey members and non-members to map current service provision in relation to the revised components in the Commissioning Guidance
  • Support members to develop clearer knowledge of other available support in their local communities
  • Contribute to the development of revised national data sets to assist the mapping of service provision across the hospice sector.

  • Collaborate

Support members to address how to meet increasing demand within limited resource through exploring opportunities to work collaboratively:

  • Support members to develop partnerships with local providers and to share examples of best practice and innovative projects
  • Support members to develop opportunities to signpost or refer to other appropriate support
  • Continue to collaborate with other bereavement organisations through active participation in the National Bereavement Alliance and its many initiatives, and disseminate this work to members
  • Maintain a collaborative relationship between ABSCo and Hospice UK
